Picket Congress' Special Session Against Power Bill &
Emergency Powers STATE Workers led by the Confederation for Unity, Recognition & Advancement of Government Employees (COURAGE) today picketed the special session at the House of Representatives. The protest, along with representatives from the Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU), human rights organizations, and the youth sector, is meant to register their opposition to the Omnibus Power Bill that will eventually privatize the National Power Corporation (Napocor). Vs. Privatization THE downpour of heavy rains did not stop the members of the alliance called STOP Privatization from holding their protest rally today in front of the US Embassy Building along Roxas Boulevard, coinciding with the occasion of Fil-Am Friendship Day. The rallyists stressed that they are taking the occasion to emphasize their position against privatization and other impositions by the US who represents the interests of foreign monopolies or big businesses. Oppose NAPOCOR Privatization; Slam Bicameral On Power
Bill MEMBERS of the militant COURAGE, an organization of government workers unions nationwide, today picketed the Bicameral meeting on the Omnibus Power Bill at the Senate. The protesters are opposing the passage of the said bill not only because more than 10,000 employees of the Napocor shall be displaced but also because of the almost PhP1 trillion debts of Napocor that will be passed on to the public in the form of stranded cost. Unions & Retailers Rally on Fil-Am Day Against
Foreign Intervention FARMERS, retailers and government employees led by the Coalition of Farmers, Organizations, Unions and Retailers (C-FOUR) and the National Food Authority Employees Association (NFAEA-Courage) from Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Southern Tagalog, Bicol, and the National Capital Region converged for the first time yesterday at the Department of Finance (DOF). Together they launched a protest rally against the privatization of the National Food Authority (NFA) which is being imposed by foreign multilateral financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund-World Bank-Asian Development Bank (IMF-WB-ADB) with the DOF as its spokesperson.[July 4/2000] click here for more Workers Score World Bank &
Pardo for Postal Service Sale Plan WORKERS and employees of
the Philippine Postal Corporation (Philpost) were rattled
of the news in the papers of the impending privatization
of the postal service. Banking on the three modes,
Department of Finance (DOF) Secretary Jose Pardo hints
that the privatization of Philpost is a priority one and
could be in any of the three modes currently being used
